All about the Role

An opportunity has arisen to appoint a Part‑time (2 days: Tuesday–Wednesday) Cemeteries and Grounds Technician at Peterborough Bereavement Services, owned and operated by Peterborough City Council.

In this role, you will assist in the delivery of our burial service, liaising with contractors and funeral directors to ensure burials take place at specific times and in full compliance with statutory requirements and Health & Safety legislation. You will also carry out memorial safety checks across the Council's cemeteries, represent the Council at burials, and meet with suppliers, contractors, and stonemasons.

The role requires providing holiday and lunch cover in the crematorium chapel, assisting with the preparation of funeral services and helping to bear coffins into the chapel.

When not engaged in cemetery or chapel duties, you will undertake horticultural work at the Crematorium, including grass cutting, planting, pruning, maintaining roses, shrubs and trees, as well as weeding and leaf clearing.

All about our Team

You will join a small, dedicated team committed to providing the highest level of customer service to bereaved families, visitors, and stakeholders. Our work is sensitive, varied, and carried out with dignity and professionalism. Flexibility, teamwork and communication are essential within our service, and you will play an important role in supporting our burial, crematorium, and grounds maintenance functions.

All about You

You will be well-motivated, flexible, and able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. You will be well presented and bring experience in dealing with the public, with significant attention to detail and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Experience in horticulture or outdoor work is a strong advantage, as is a good working knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace. The role requires the ability to work flexible hours, including locking cemetery gates in the evening, and having access to your own car is essential.
