All about the Role 

Governance Professionals play a vital role in supporting high‑quality governance across maintained schools and academies in Peterborough and the Fenland area. Formerly known as Clerks to the Governors, the role involves preparing for, attending and minuting governing board meetings, and delivering a full administrative and advisory service to boards.
 
You will ensure meetings run smoothly by circulating agendas and papers, providing procedural advice, taking accurate minutes and maintaining effective records. The role is flexible, typically involving early evening meetings during term time, with administrative duties undertaken from home. The Council supplies appropriate IT equipment to support the work.


All about our Team

You will join the Governor Development Team at Peterborough City Council, who work closely with governors, school leaders, local authority colleagues and multi‑academy trusts. 

The team offers a comprehensive support package to schools, including advice, clerking, training and development. As part of this network, Governance Professionals attend termly briefings, development sessions and networking events, benefitting from a strong culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

 

All about You

This role is well suited to someone seeking flexible work that fits around existing commitments, or a part‑time position with meaningful impact. You will be highly organised, confident in managing deadlines, and experienced in administration. 

Experience of school governance or administrative support in an education environment is desirable, as is experience in compliance‑related processes such as hearings or investigations. You will bring strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the confidence to advise governing boards.
