Then this job with the Sensory and Physical Support Service could be for you!
We are looking for a HLTA to work as part of our team to improve the educational and life outcomes of young people across Peterborough who have a vision impairment. A key part of the role will be working with different technology in different settings to assist young people to access their education and prepare them for adulthood. this may involve demonstrating the technology, training young people and those who support them in how best to use the equipment and trouble shooting when problems arise. As well as this vital role, you will work on varied tasks such as preparing resources, observing lessons and coaching others in best practice.

The Sensory and Physical Support service (SAPS) team are an enthusiastic group of professionals who emphasise team work as our within a supportive environment as our top priority. Whether it is working alongside each other, families, various professionals or collaborating with our wider SEN and Inclusion team, we always seek to portray professionalism and to create and maintain positive relationships with all.
The SAPS team includes the areas of hearing, vision, multi-sensory impairment and physical needs, all of which provide support to pre-school children and young people in education aged (0-25) with sensory impairment in Peterborough
Specialist teachers and support staff hold the necessary mandatory qualifications in the areas of:
- Teaching of the Deaf (TOD)
- Vision impairment (VI)
- Multi-sensory impairment (MSI)
SAPS provide services which may include home teaching for pre-school children and teaching support for school-age children and young people, information and advice on a child or young person's sensory impairment or physical needs and its implications, support with hearing/vision assessments and technologies, assistance with access to specialist equipment, teaching in sign language and Braille if appropriate and facilitating support to other professionals.
All about You
- You must have HLTA or equivalent qualification with an understanding of the impact of vision loss upon aspects of learning, and access to the curriculum.
- Ideally you should have some experience of using Braille, however, the expectation is that you will undertake further qualifications in this. You will have knowledge of national/early years curriculum and other learning programmes and strategies.
- You should have successful experience of working in educational settings, maintaining and supporting the use of assistive technology. You should be confident in the effective use of IT to maintain records and support learning.
- You should have knowledge of the requirements for Safeguarding and Child Protection.
- If successful, you will have to apply for an enhanced Disclosure.
