Our Operations Support Internship is designed to help you gain valuable workplace experience, develop new skills and build your confidence for the future.  We're offering four exciting Operations Support Intern opportunities for enthusiastic individuals who are ready to learn, develop and make a real contribution. You'll work alongside supportive colleagues, get involved in meaningful projects and gain practical experience that can help you take your next steps into employment.  

All about the role 

As an Operations Support Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience across a range of administrative, operational and customer-focused activities while working alongside experienced colleagues who are committed to supporting your development. 

You'll help with day-to-day office tasks, support projects, use digital tools and learn how services are delivered. Along the way, you'll receive training and mentoring, gain valuable experience and build confidence, in a supportive environment. 

All about the team's 

You will be matched into one of the four teams below for the duration of your internship: 

People Team 

Support projects that help colleagues thrive at work. You could gain experience in areas such as recruitment, employee engagement, communications and business support while learning how organisations attract, support and develop their people. 

 Adult Social Care 

Help support services that enable adults to live safe, healthy and independent lives. You'll contribute to projects, research, reporting and service improvement activity while gaining experience in how local government supports residents and communities. 

 Public Health 

Support initiatives that improve the health and wellbeing of local people. You could get involved in projects linked to healthy lifestyles, community wellbeing, health campaigns and research that helps shape services across Peterborough. 

 Planning and Building Control 

Gain experience in a technical service that helps shape and support the city. You'll assist with checking applications, maintaining records, supporting customers and learning how planning and building regulations help create safe, sustainable communities.

✔ Positive attitude and willingness to learn 
✔ Good communication skills 
✔ Able to organise your time and complete tasks accurately 
✔ Comfortable using a computer for everyday tasks 

No formal qualifications or work experience needed. Experience from volunteering, community activities, education or personal projects is welcome.  

Key details

Pay: Age 18 - 20 years £10.85 per hour | Age 21 years £12.71 per hour

Location: Sand Martin House, Peterborough City Council 
Duration: Six-week placement commencing 15 October 2026 (subject to recruitment checks) 
Hours: 30 hours per week – hours to be discussed at assessment centre. 

Discovery day all applicants must attend: Date to be confirmed but provisionally on either Tuesday 22 September or Friday 25 September 2026.

Eligibility check 

These internships are funded through the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) Youth Guarantee Trailblazer Programme and are therefore open to applicants aged 18-21 years. To be eligible for this internship, you must: 

✅ Be aged 18-21 years 
✅ Live in a Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) postcode area 
✅ Be unemployed and not currently in work 
✅ Not be in full-time education 
✅ Have the right to work in the UK 
✅ Be facing challenges getting into work, for example: 

  • You've never had a job before
  • You have little or no work experience
  • You've applied for jobs but haven't been getting interviews
  • You're finding it difficult to take the next step into employment 

 Closing date: Monday 14 September

Information session: We will be hosting an information session about the internships on Thursday 10 September, 1pm - 4pm at the Youth Hub, Weston Homes Stadium, Peterborough.
