Operations Assistant Vacancy, Peterborough City Council Governor Services

All about the Role

We're recruiting for an Operations Support Assistant to be the operational heartbeat of Governor Services, working directly with the Governance Lead. You will provide high‑quality administrative, financial and PA support to ensure the smooth running of Governor Services across Peterborough. Key duties include maintaining governor and school records, coordinating training and service communications, managing shared inboxes and trackers, preparing reports, and supporting SLA administration. You will process purchase orders, invoices, refunds and charges to schools using council finance systems, ensuring accurate audit trails and compliance with PCC financial procedures. You will also provide proactive PA support to the Governance Lead, including diary management, meeting coordination, preparing agendas, briefing notes and action logs, and acting as a professional first point of contact for schools and partners. This is a Grade 5 role based at Sand Martin House with hybrid arrangements available and is available for job share.

All about our Team

Governor Services sits within the Children & Young People Directorate and supports governing boards and trusts across the city through clerking, governance advice, training and service coordination. You will join a small, collaborative team that works closely with senior school leaders, governance professionals, councillors and external partners. The team is committed to delivering a modern, professional, efficient governance service that improves outcomes for children and strengthens leadership across Peterborough's education system. Most of our work is coordinated from Sand Martin House, with close links to School Improvement colleagues.

All about You

You will be a friendly, highly organised problem‑solver with experience working in a busy administrative or customer‑facing environment. You will have strong Microsoft 365 skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, SharePoint) and the confidence to manage multiple tasks at pace. You should bring solid finance administration experience, including raising purchase orders, processing invoices, managing refunds or reconciliations, and maintaining accurate evidence for audit. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with professionalism, confidentiality and a customer‑focused approach. You must hold at least 3 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent), including English and Maths. Experience supporting traded services, using local authority finance systems such as Agresso/Unit4, or providing PA/executive support would be advantageous.
