All about the Role
The Project Support Officer plays a key role within the Corporate Delivery Unit (CDU), providing high‑quality project, programme and governance support to enable the successful delivery of the Council's Transformation Programme. The role supports projects and programmes that underpin the Council's Corporate Strategy and portfolio boards, ensuring that robust governance, accurate reporting and consistent project management standards are applied across the organisation.
Working closely with Programme and Project Managers, the postholder enables effective oversight and decision‑making by maintaining high‑quality project information, coordinating reporting cycles, and supporting assurance processes. This role is critical in ensuring that transformation activity is delivered in a structured, transparent and well‑governed manner across the Council.
Key Responsibilities
You will provide comprehensive administrative and coordination support to transformation projects and programmes across the Council. You will maintain accurate and up‑to‑date project documentation, including plans, RAID logs, dependency tracking, change control and decision logs, and support Programme and Project Managers by monitoring milestones, risks, issues, benefits and financial information.
You will contribute to the effective operation of project and programme governance arrangements, supporting portfolio and project boards and preparing reports, dashboards and highlight updates for senior leadership and other governance forums. The role also involves supporting assurance activity, such as gateway reviews, health checks and lessons‑learned processes, ensuring alignment with PMO standards and requirements.
You will maintain and quality‑assure project data within corporate systems, including Project for the Web and associated PMO tools. Alongside this, you will help colleagues use project management tools effectively and support the production of clear, accurate management information to enable evidence‑based decision‑making.
The role includes coordinating meetings, workshops and engagement sessions, preparing agendas, papers, minutes and action tracking, while working collaboratively with services, partners and stakeholders to support cross‑organisational working.
You will contribute to continuous improvement by supporting the embedding of consistent project management standards, templates and ways of working across the organisation. You will also help identify opportunities to enhance PMO processes and support the ongoing development of transformation governance and delivery arrangements.
All about You

You will have a high level of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and consistency in the maintenance of project documentation, data and reporting. You will be a confident user of Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Teams and SharePoint, and able to use these tools to support effective project coordination and information management.
