About the Role

We're looking for compassionate, resilient individuals to join our relief team at Clare Lodge, a secure children's home for young females. As a Relief Residential Worker, you'll provide direct care, guidance, and positive adult role modelling to vulnerable young people during periods of staff absence or increased need.

You'll act in a professional and parental capacity (loco parentis), supporting each child's wellbeing and development. Your responsibilities may include key working tasks, supporting health appointments, engaging in purposeful activities, and maintaining accurate records. You'll work flexibly within policies and procedures, contributing to a safe and nurturing environment.

This role is ideal for those seeking flexible hours, whether you're building experience in residential care or balancing other commitments. Sleep-in duties may be required depending on shift availability.

🔹 About You

You'll bring experience or a strong interest in working with children or young people, and an understanding of safeguarding and trauma-informed care. You'll be a confident communicator, calm under pressure, and committed to delivering high-quality care. Flexibility and reliability are essential, as shifts may vary.

🔹 About Our Team

Clare Lodge is supported by a dedicated, multidisciplinary team including residential care staff, social workers, health professionals, and educators. We work collaboratively to provide trauma-informed care and build meaningful relationships with young people, many of whom have experienced significant challenges.

Whether you're new to residential care or bring years of experience, you'll be joining a team that values empathy, professionalism, and making a lasting difference.

🔹 Could This Be You?

  • Do you want to make a meaningful impact in a flexible role?
  • Can you offer consistent support and positive role modelling to young people?
  • Are you ready to be part of a team that values care, resilience, and growth?

If you answered yes, we'd love to hear from you.

As a Relief Worker at PCC you'll be able to access the following benefits:

  • The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) if your contract is for 3 months or more
  • Discounts and lifestyle savings for a range of retailers including supermarkets via Vivup, our Employee Benefits Platform
  • An Employee Assistance Programme, offering support including counselling
  • Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Staff Network
  • Opportunities to receive Employee Recognition Awards

🔹 Our Commitment

We are proud to be an equal opportunities employer, welcoming applications from all backgrounds and particularly encouraging those from underrepresented groups. If you require reasonable adjustments during the application or interview process, please contact pccrecruitment@peterborough.gov.uk.

Appointment to this post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
