All about the Role

The Safeguarding and Training Lead is a senior role within the Local Authority Secure Children's Home, responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership in safeguarding and workforce development. As the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), the postholder ensures all statutory safeguarding duties are met and embedded across the service, offering expert advice and oversight on child protection matters. The role also leads the design, delivery, and quality assurance of staff training, promoting trauma‑informed, rights‑respecting, and safe practice. A key part of the role is driving learning from incidents, audits, and inspections to support continuous improvement, while contributing to governance, assurance, and preparation for regulatory scrutiny such as Ofsted. The post ensures the workforce is competent, confident, and aligned with statutory, regulatory, and local authority expectations.

All about our Team

The Safeguarding and Training Team forms part of the wider Clare Lodge leadership and care team, working collaboratively to ensure the safety, welfare, and development of children in secure accommodation. The team partners closely with care staff, managers, education, health, and therapeutic professionals to maintain a safe, trauma‑informed, and rights‑respecting environment. With a strong focus on safeguarding oversight, staff development, and continuous improvement, the team plays a vital role in ensuring that practice is consistent, compliant, and aligned with statutory duties and regulatory expectations. Through integrated working, reflective practice, and a commitment to learning, the team supports high‑quality care and positive outcomes for children.

All about You

We are looking for an experienced safeguarding professional with strong leadership skills and a deep commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable children. With a strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, trauma‑informed practice, and the demands of secure residential care, they will demonstrate sound judgement, resilience, and the ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure.

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about learning and development—someone who can design, deliver, and quality‑assure high‑impact training that strengthens practice and builds a confident, skilled workforce.
