If so, this is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing team where you can further develop your technical expertise and broaden your experience in a senior role.

All about the Role

Agile (remote) working is available.

The Revenues and Benefits Service has a vital role in the billing, collection and recovery of Council Tax, Business Rates and Sundry Debt.

We are looking to recruit an experienced and proactive Senior Local Taxation Officer to join our Council Tax Recovery team within Shared Transactional Services.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you will manage your own caseload and deal with more complex and sensitive recovery work, balancing firm income collection with a fair, customer-focused approach.

You will work across the full recovery cycle, using your judgement to determine appropriate action and ensuring compliance with legislation, policy and best practice.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing complex Council Tax cases, including amendments, recovery and enforcement activity

  • Progressing arrears using a range of recovery methods, including court action, charging orders, bankruptcy and insolvency routes

  • Reviewing cases proactively and making informed decisions on next steps, including appropriate write-offs

  • Liaising with enforcement agents, solicitors, internal teams and external stakeholders

  • Supporting and guiding colleagues with technical queries and complex cases

  • Representing the Council in court where required and preparing supporting documentation

  • Delivering excellent customer service while handling challenging or sensitive situations

You will be part of a supportive team environment that encourages knowledge sharing, continuous improvement and professional development, with opportunities to expand your technical expertise across the wider revenues service.

All about You

Do you have:

- proven experience in Council Tax administration, billing and recovery?

- a strong understanding of recovery and enforcement processes, including court proceedings and advanced recovery action?

- confidence interpreting and applying legislation and policy to complex cases?

- the ability to make sound, balanced decisions in a fast-paced environment?

- strong communication skills, with the ability to deal effectively with a wide range of customers and stakeholders?

- good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities?

Experience using Capita/MRI One (Academy) Revenues & Benefits systems is desirable (training can be provided).

Broader knowledge of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support frameworks would be beneficial.
