Teaching and Service Assistant

Term Time Only – 13.5 Hours Per Week

NJC Scale 5 £25,583 - £26,404 Pro rata

Fixed Term 1st September 2026 – 13th July 2027

City College Peterborough are looking for an enthusiastic, positive and learner driven Teaching Assistant to work within our Study Skills programme. You will be working with a diverse group of learners aged 16-24, some of which have special educational needs. 

As a Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will vary from providing support for individual students to shared groups of students who need assistance to absorb the lesson material. You will work with the lead Tutor in developing resources for class activities and will assist in record-keeping on ProMonitor.  

Our aim is to support learners in becoming independent and to progress onto their next steps in life!  To do this job well, you should be proactive, approachable and patient with a positive attitude. If you are passionate about working with and supporting young people, then we would like to hear from you! 

The successful candidate will be able to:  

  • Establish effective working relationships with learners  
  • Undertake the role of Teaching Assistant inside and outside of the classroom in order to provide high quality support 
  • Provide personal care to learners
  • Have excellent communication skills  
  • Work effectively with tutors to ensure the level of challenge is appropriate for the learners 

Desirable criteria: 

  • Experience working in an Education Setting.  
  • Experience working with individuals who have Special Educational Needs.  
  • Experience of administering personal care
