All about the Role

We're looking for a Work Experience Project Lead to take a strategic and hands-on lead in developing and delivering high‑impact work experience opportunities for young people in Peterborough – particularly those who are not in education, employment or training (NEET).

In this role, you'll design, implement and continuously improve opportunities that create pathways into employment such as work experience, volunteering and internship projects that help young people build confidence, professional skills and awareness of career options. You'll work closely with colleagues across the Council, local employers and partner organisations to create a strong, sustainable Work Experience Framework for both internal and external use.

You'll use data, insight and feedback from young people to shape projects, identify barriers to participation and develop practical solutions. Alongside delivery, you'll champion equality, diversity and inclusion, ensuring opportunities are accessible and meaningful for all.

This is a fixed‑term role until 31 March 2027, with the possibility of extension.

All about our Team

You'll be part of the People & Development service within Corporate Services, working in the Workforce Development team. Our team plays a vital role in enabling staff and future talent to thrive by developing skills, building career pathways and strengthening workforce sustainability.

We are passionate about creating positive experiences, supporting early careers and promoting Peterborough City Council as an employer of choice. Collaboration is at the heart of what we do – we work closely with services across the Council and with external partners to deliver practical, people‑centred solutions that make a real difference.

You'll be supported by a friendly, knowledgeable team that values innovation, learning and continuous improvement.

All about You

You'll bring strong project leadership skills and experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver outcomes. You understand how work experience and similar opportunities can support young people's employability and career development, and you're motivated by making a positive social impact.

You're confident using data and evidence to inform decisions, measure success and improve delivery. You communicate clearly and effectively, adapting your approach to engage young people, colleagues and partners alike. You're organised, self‑motivated and able to manage multiple priorities.

You'll also demonstrate a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, with an understanding of the barriers people may face in accessing opportunities. Experience of working in learning and development, education, workforce planning or the public sector would be beneficial, but most importantly you'll share our commitment to supporting young people to succeed.
