We have an exciting opportunity for a Payments Officer to join our Accounts Payable team and help us ensure smooth, accurate, and timely payments across the Council and to our network of suppliers. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy working collaboratively, this could be the perfect role for you.

All about the Role

As a Payments Officer, you'll play a key role in processing payments to suppliers, managing data from external systems, and ensuring compliance with HMRC and Council policies. You'll handle invoice queries, maintain supplier records, and support the Council's KPI targets by ensuring invoices are paid promptly. You'll also contribute to process improvements,  and act as a super-user for our finance system (Unit4). This is a varied role where accuracy, attention to detail, and adaptability are essential. The role is agile, based either at our Peterborough office or from home.

All about our Team

You'll be part of a collaborative Accounts Payable team that works closely with procurement, finance, ICT, and audit to ensure a smooth Purchase to Pay (P2P) process. We pride ourselves on delivering a high-quality service that provides value for money and supports the Council's objectives. Our team values customer care, compliance and attention to detail.  We're committed to helping each other succeed in an environment where the ability to work quickly and meet deadlines is key.

All about You

This role requires the ideal candidate to have experience in working within an Accounts Payable or Finance team and knowledge of a Purchase to Pay process.  You should be customer-focused, with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. You can manage your own workload, meet tight deadlines, and adapt positively to change. Accuracy and attention to detail are vital, meaning payments are made accurately and on time.  You'll have experience of managing busy inboxes and document management systems, but most importantly, you're able to work as part of a team and contribute to shared success.
