All about the Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Senior Building Control Surveyor to join our team and support the delivery of a high-quality, customer-focused service across a wide range of building developments.
In this role, you will be responsible for processing plans, carrying out inspections, and ensuring compliance with current building regulations, health and safety, and related legislation. You will manage your own caseload, including more complex matters such as enforcement, contraventions, demolitions and dangerous structures.
You will contribute to the achievement of local and national performance targets and support the accurate recording of inspections and report writing using a range of digital systems, including Building Control, Planning, EDRMS, and GIS platforms. The role also involves working on complex commercial projects and developments within major growth areas.
As part of a collaborative team, you will work closely with colleagues, stakeholders, and partners, while also supporting junior team members through mentoring, shadowing, and knowledge sharing. You will use specialist surveying and compliance equipment, such as theodolites, thermal imaging cameras, laser measures, and moisture meters, to support effective inspection and assessment.
Salary will be dependant on qualifications and experience.
All about You
- You will have strong knowledge of current building regulations, private sector building control, and related legislation, alongside an understanding of national quality and customer service standards.
- You will bring significant post-qualification experience and be confident managing your own caseload while contributing positively to team delivery. You will have experience working on higher-risk buildings and complex commercial developments and be able to prioritise workloads to meet demanding deadlines.
- You will have excellent negotiation, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships both internally and externally. You will be organised, detail-focused, and capable of producing clear, accurate reports and inspection records.
- You will also demonstrate a proactive and innovative approach, contributing ideas to promote the service and drive continuous improvement. Confidence in training, mentoring, or supporting junior colleagues will be essential.
- You will hold an HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in a related subject (or a degree or equivalent), membership of a relevant professional body such as CABE, RICS, or CIOB, and be registered with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 2.
