About the team

At City College Peterborough, we are passionate about transforming lives through learning. We provide high-quality adult education that helps people develop new skills, build confidence, achieve their goals, and reach their full potential.

Our Tailored Learning team is a dedicated and supportive group committed to helping adults from all backgrounds progress into further learning, employment, and improved wellbeing.

Part of our Tailored Learning offer is our Supported Adult Learning (SAL) offer which includes a variety of courses for adults with learning disabilities. Through these programmes, learners are supported to develop their knowledge, skills, confidence, and independence in a welcoming and inclusive environment. The successful candidate will work within this provision.

About the Role

We are looking for a dynamic and inspiring Learning Support Assistant (LSA) who is passionate about helping adults with learning disabilities unlock their full potential.

You will play an important role in creating an inclusive, positive, and engaging learning environment that allows learners to thrive. By building strong relationships with learners and working closely with tutors, you will help deliver person-centred support, adapt learning activities to meet individual needs, and encourage learners to develop their skills, confidence, and independence.

Our Supported Adult Learning provision runs over a 30-week academic year, with courses taking place during the daytime between Tuesday and Friday. We are currently seeking support across a range of programmes, including Wardrobe Wonders, Click IT, Click IT: Level Up, Independence Unlocked, and Community Champions (courses subject to change).

Knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL) or sewing would be advantageous, but is not essential.

Principal duties and responsibilities

You will:

  1. Work closely with tutors to identify and meet individual learner support needs.
  2. Support learners to engage confidently in person-centred learning activities.
  3. Help create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  4. Assist learners in understanding and following health and safety requirements.
  5. Promote positive learner experiences both within and beyond the classroom.
  6. Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement.
  7. Attend team meetings, training sessions, and College events as required.
  8. Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion at all times.
  9. Maintain professional standards and participate in continuous professional development.
  10. Provide occasional cover for colleagues during periods of absence or annual leave.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about helping people achieve their potential.
  • Brings a flexible, learner-centred approach and adapts to individual needs.
  • Is eager to learn, grow, and embrace new ideas.
  • Builds positive relationships through excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Thrives as part of a supportive and collaborative team.
  • Is self-motivated, proactive, and full of enthusiasm.
  • Has a positive, can-do attitude and inspires others to succeed.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Nathalie Verbruggen, Tailored Learning Curriculum Coordinator, at Nathalie.Verbruggen@peterborough.gov.uk.

Provisional Date for Interview 14th, 15th September

Our Commitments

We are proud to be an equal opportunities employer, dedicated to fostering diversity, advancing equity, and building an inclusive workplace for everyone. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and particularly encourage those from underrepresented groups, including disabled people, care leavers, and individuals from minority ethnic communities. Your unique perspectives and experiences are encouraged and valued and will play a vital role in our success.

We are committed to making our recruitment process as accessible as possible. If you are a person who has or considers yourself to have a disability and you require reasonable adjustments to the application or interview process, please contact pccrecruitment@peterborough.gov.uk.

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

If you've already applied and completed the recruitment process for this position within the last three months, there's no need to reapply. We really appreciate your interest and thank you for considering us.
