All about the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join our Building Control service as a Principal Building Surveyor. You will support the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused services across a complex and evolving regulatory environment.
You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with current building regulations and associated legislation, including health and safety and licensing requirements. The role involves contributing to service performance, supporting budget monitoring, and helping to deliver local and national targets.
Working collaboratively with internal teams, elected members, and external partners, you will help shape service delivery, promote continuous improvement, and support the management of small teams where required. You will also use a range of digital systems, including planning, EDRMS, and GIS platforms, to support efficient and effective service delivery.
This is an opportunity to work in a challenging and rewarding environment, including supporting services across major growth areas and multiple planning disciplines.
Salary offered will be dependant on qualifications and experience.
All about You
- You will bring strong technical knowledge of building regulations, private sector building control, and related legislation, alongside a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
- You will have significant post-qualification experience, including experience of managing small teams and delivering performance targets. You will be confident working within a political environment and engaging effectively with elected members and a wide range of stakeholders.
- You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be highly organised, and able to prioritise workloads to meet strict deadlines. You will also demonstrate a proactive approach, with the ability to develop new ideas and contribute to the ongoing promotion and improvement of the service.
- You will hold BSCF accreditation (Class 2D as a minimum), a degree or equivalent qualification in a related subject, and membership of a relevant professional body. Additional qualifications or corporate membership of organisations such as ABE or RICS would be advantageous.
