All about the Role
As Senior Infrastructure & Sec Ops Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, security and performance of Peterborough City Council's server-based and cloud IT services. You will be responsible for the configuration, capacity, availability and security of core infrastructure, making sure services operate efficiently and in line with agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Working within the Digital & Customer Access (DCA) service, you will be instrumental in delivering next‑generation ICT solutions that improve both customer and business experiences. This is a hands-on, technical role where you will manage, support and deploy enterprise server, cloud and security infrastructure, while also contributing to the continuous improvement of our technology landscape.
You will collaborate closely with colleagues, suppliers and other stakeholders to maintain secure and resilient systems, respond to incidents, implement improvements and support the adoption of modern, cloud-first technologies. Your work will directly support the delivery of high-quality public services across the council.
If you are enthusiastic, motivated and passionate about making a real difference through technology, this is an excellent opportunity to join an ambitious local authority and a forward‑thinking DCA service that is committed to improving outcomes for residents, customers and staff.
All about You
You are an experienced infrastructure and security professional with a strong technical background across on‑premise, hybrid and cloud environments. You bring in‑depth knowledge of building, configuring, administering and supporting a wide range of infrastructure technologies, including compute, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, COTS and open‑source solutions, as well as virtualised and cloud platforms spanning IaaS, PaaS and SaaS.
You are a confident problem‑solver who can investigate and diagnose issues across systems, processes and services, understanding whether problems are strategic, tactical or operational in nature. You are able to contribute to effective remediation plans and implement preventative measures to improve resilience and performance.
